Degree Programs

Students at Sonoma State can earn a minor, bachelor of arts and master of arts in history.

  • History minors must take a total of 22 units of history coursework.
  • History majors must take at least 40 units of history coursework.
  • History masters students must already have a BA degree and must then take 30 units of coursework in the department. At least 15 units of the MA program must be graduate courses at the 500-level.

To graduate with distinction with a BA in history, candidates should have consistently achieved high academic marks, made significant contributions to the department, and/or overcome serious personal or professional hardships.
